This parade along Flagler Avenue, circa 1950, highlights Stuart’s long-standing commitment to historic preservation, with many of these buildings still standing today. Cromer’s Market, established in 1935, relocated to this location (the Pressel building) in 1940 and remained there until 1952; the site is now The Gafford Restaurant (47 SW Flagler Avenue). Next door, the Holleran Building housed the W.W. Mac Co. from 1945 to 1966 and is now Luna Italian Cuisine (49 SW Flagler Avenue). A business without visible signage at 53 SW Flagler is now Island Cotton. Next door, the Lyric Theatre, opened in 1926, continues to operate thanks to dedicated community efforts. Two smaller storefronts, Meggett Hardware & Paint Company and Rue’s Sweet Shop, have been replaced by a Lyric Theatre addition and the Kibbey & Wagner garden entrance. At the end of the street is the Feroe Building (73 S.W. Flagler Avenue), built in 1913, which was the home of the post office between 1915 and 1925, now the home of Kibbey & Wagner attorneys.
